10-Men [RV/24] Denver Drops Extra Time Result to [2/7] Indiana

The Pioneers will continue their six-match road swing to open the campaign at Notre Dame Sunday at 5 p.m. MT

SOUTH BEND, Ind. The [RV/24] University of Denver men's soccer team got on the board in the opening 10 minutes for the second time in three matches, but fell to [2/7] Indiana 2-1 in extra time on Friday evening at Alumni Stadium on the campus of Notre Dame.

"I'm really proud of my guys' effort," head coach Jamie Franks said. "They showed a lot of grit and determination after we went down a man. We're unlucky not to get a result with the chances we had in the final minute of regulation. Looking back at the game, and the season thus far, we have moments in matches where we pick and choose when we are going to be disciplined and when we're not. The margins in these matches are so small, and we need to look at ourselves and dig deep. We need a good response on Sunday."

The Pioneers opened the scoring in the sixth minute on sophomore holding midfielder Liam Johnson's (Golden, Colo.) first career goal. Junior captain Jacob Stensson (Stockholm, Sweden) played in the corner kick service that led to Johnson's breakthrough. Coming off an eight-assist campaign in his sophomore season, Stensson now has 13 helpers in the first 41 matches of his Pioneer career.

Indiana's only shot on target in the opening 45 minutes came from the penalty spot as Indiana's Ian Black equalized for the Hoosiers after a handball just inside the area to make it 1-1 in the 28th minute.

Stensson received his marching orders in the 49th minute after being shown his second yellow just on the other side of the intermission.

Black gave the Hoosiers the victory in the 97th minute off assists from Spencer Glass and Aidan Morris.

Indiana has won all three of its matches this season in extra time.
