ELDORA, Colo. -- Amelia Smart, who was skiing World Cups in Europe when her teammates were traveling to Eldora on Tuesday, won the women's slalom race Friday in an RMISA Alpine Qualifier race after the conclusion of the CU Invitational at Ikon Pass' Eldora Mountain Resort. Â
Smart skied in the slalom race at the World Cup in Flachau, Austria on Tuesday, flew back to the United States on Wednesday, raced but didn't finish on Thursday and then won Friday to get her first result of the college season. It's her fifth college win, four of which have come in slalom action.Â
The women's team as a whole dominated the race with all five skiers finishing in the top nine.Â
Storm Klomhaus, who hadn't finished a race since 2017, took her third straight podium with a third place showing on her home hill. She won the slalom race on Thursday and was third in the GS race Wednesday.Â
Andrea Komsic finished fifth,
Reece Bell tied for sixth and
Amelia Smart's sister,
Eleri Smart, finished ninth. Â
The races don't count for team scoring but do count in every other way, including seeding for the NCAA Championships. Â
The men's team did not have the same luck as the women's team, with
Nick Santaniello taking sixth place as the only Pioneer who finished.
Colby Lane, brotherÂ
Tristan Lane, and
Tobias Kogler all hooked a tip on the first run,
Cole Pucket hooked on the second run.
The alpine teams now have a few weeks off before continuing their college seasons Feb. 22 in Park City with the Utah Invitational. The Nordic teams are next on deck as the Colorado Invitational continues on Saturday with the women's 5K and men's 10K classic races at Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs.Â
