DENVER - The Denver Pioneers men's tennis team (1-0, 0-0) signed Charlie Miller and Nicolas Herrero Cuesta to National Letters of Intent, the program announced on Tuesday.
 
Herrero Cuesta, a Segovia, Spain native, posted his highest ranking at #129, top-10 for his age group. The incoming Pioneer recently competed at the "Challenger del Espinar" in his hometown and was runner-up at the "Master Marca Jóvenes Promesas," which featured the best eight players in his bracket in Spain. In 2018, Herrero Cuesta logged victories over top competition, including a 6-1, 6-4 victory against the current Spanish champion.
 
Miller has been ranked 1^st in Scotland in his age group since nine years old and has represented his country at U10, U12, U14 & U18 age groups. He won several British national level singles titles and, before focusing on ITFs, reached a UK ranking high of #4 at U16. In 10 months since, Charlie has risen from being unranked to having an ITF Junior ranking of #457, having reached singles and doubles finals in Latvia and Nottingham and winning in Ireland. He is currently the captain of Merchiston Tennis Academy and part of the team to win and retain the British Schools National Finals for the last two years qualifying for the World Schools Finals.
 
Denver won its 2020 spring season opener 4-3 against Wichita State. The Pioneers will host their home opener on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 12 p.m. MT against Bryant State before hosing a doubleheader on Friday, Jan. 24 against Metro State at 11 a.m. and Weber State at 6 p.m.
