From 2014-17,
Cassidy Rooke built a career for the Denver Pioneers volleyball team to put her name in the record books. Ranking third in school history in digs (1,719) and digs per set (3.75) as well as seventh in school history in total sets played (459), the San Diego, Calif. native was a foundation piece in four Summit League tournament titles and NCAA tournament appearances. Today, she takes the lessons she learned on the court and in the classroom at DU and applies them her work in team marketing and business operations for the NBA.
Where are you originally from? Â
Originally from San Diego, Calif.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Denver?
I chose the University of Denver because of the unique intersection of athletics and academics. I knew each aspect would be challenging and rewarding on their own, but most importantly I would be (going to DU) with a group of empowering young females! Looking back, I couldn't imagine going through college without them...
What is your favorite memory from your time with the Pioneers?
One of my favorite memories is winning (one of the four) Summit League tournaments my sophomore year. We were down two sets and came back to win in 5! It was one of those games where you remember leaving it all on the floor...
Â
Where are you living and what are you doing now?
I'm currently living in New York City, and I work for the NBA doing team marketing and business operations.
How did your time at the University of Denver prepare you for life after volleyball?
There's something about being part of a college team that teaches you so many life lessons. Emotionally and physically pushing yourself and your teammates toward a common goal somehow makes a work project seem easy. One of the best lessons I learned is the importance of being comfortable in the uncomfortable. There's minimal growth happening in your comfort zone - whether it's a new technique or subject matter - don't be afraid to push yourself to learn/try something new.Â
What advice do you have for the current Pioneers about life after college?
Be proud of your experiences (good and bad) and don't be afraid to speak to it in interviews. Utilize the university / athletics network - there's probably someone out there that wants to help you out!Â
