Pioneers Release 2020-21 Schedule

Denver scheduled to play 24 games, full slate of 16 league contests

DENVER – University of Denver women's basketball head coach Doshia Woods announced the 2020-21 season schedule on Saturday. The Pioneers are scheduled to play 24 games in all.

DU gets going with a season-opener on Wednesday at Air Force.

"We are very excited about the opportunity to play this season," Woods said. "DU, like most universities, have needed to make adjustments with our schedule. I'm thankful for the work Coach Werntz and Coach Pennewell put in to provide us with multiple non-league games this season."

Denver is slated to play eight non-league games with teams from around the region, including a pair of contests with the Falcons (Nov. 25, Dec. 20), at Northern Colorado (Dec. 1), at Wyoming (Dec. 5), Colorado (Dec. 8), a home-and-home series with Colorado State (Dec. 13, Dec. 18) and New Mexico State (Dec. 15).

Game dates and times remain open to change due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We realize the season will be filled with so much uncertainty, we will be grateful for any games we're able to play," Woods added. "We are prepared for every situation to be fluid and flexible. We are grateful for our administration providing the necessary resources and testing in order for us to compete this season. Ultimately, we are looking forward to getting on the court and competing. We've made tremendous strides since September. Each day we strive to be better than yesterday. We continue to focus on what we can control. Unfortunately, COVID doesn't fall under things we can control."

The Pioneers will open Summit League play beginning on Jan. 2 with a two-game series at South Dakota in the new scheduling format for this season.

DU returns home for a series against Oral Roberts (Jan. 15, Jan. 16) before a trip to Fargo to take on North Dakota State (Jan. 22, Jan. 23). Denver then returns home for two straights weekends, hosting South Dakota State (Jan. 29, Jan. 30) and North Dakota (Feb. 5, Feb. 6).

Denver hits the road for two series mid-February starting with Western Illinois (Feb. 12, Feb. 13) before capping the trip off at newcomer Kansas City (Feb. 19, Feb. 20).

The Pioneers close out the regular season welcoming Omaha for two games on Feb. 26 and 27.
