DENVER – Both the University of Denver Golf teams announced its upcoming 2021 spring schedules on Friday. The men's team will play in at least seven tournaments in the spring, while the women will compete in at least six.
"We are excited to release our spring schedule for 2021," head coach
Trake Carpenter said. "The guys will have opportunities each week to compete against the best players and teams in the country."
On the men's side, the first-year head coach looks to start the season off with a trip to Tucson for the Arizona Intercollegiate on Jan. 25-27. The Pioneers then follow that up by participating on in The Prestige in La Quinta, Calif. on Feb. 15-17.
"The Prestige at PGA West is a tremendous addition for us and will feature several of the top programs this year. This schedule will challenge and prepare us to make a postseason run at Grayhawk in May. Our first event at the end of January has been long awaited, but will be upon us quickly and we will be ready to compete."
The Crimson and Gold's campaign starts to really pick up steam in March, with two tournaments in the Lamkin San Diego Classic (Mar. 8-10), The Goodwin (Mar. 25-27) and a quick turnaround with the Stitch Intercollegiate (Apr. 9-10) in Cary, N.C. in early April.
Denver closes out regular-season play with the Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah on Apr. 23-24.
The Pioneers finally get the opportunity to defend their Summit League crown from 2019 at the Summit League Championship in Newton, Kan. on May 1-3.
NCAA postseason play begins with regional action on May 17, and concludes with a national champion being crowned at the Championships on June 2.
The women's team comes into the 2021 spring season with high expectations.
"We are so excited to get back and compete this year," head coach
Lindsay Kuhle said. "We have a few changes to our schedule from last year and have expanded our field in our first tournament in Phoenix the end of January.
"It will be great to have everyone back this winter and compete with some great teams. Most of our travel will be in Arizona and New Mexico this winter and spring, which is familiar grounds for us and locations we feel comfortable competing.
"We look forward to an exciting season and are grateful to be back on the course in 2021," Kuhle said.
Denver opens up with a challenging slate in the Match in the Desert against Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA on Jan. 24-25.
Pioneers follow that up with one tournament in February, the Westbrook Invitational (Feb. 21-21), the site where the team recorded the 54-hole program record for a score.
DU then competes in the Arizona Wildcat Invitational on Mar. 8-9 at the Sewailo Golf Club. Denver wraps up the month of March with the ASU Ping Invitational (Mar. 26-28).
The Crimson and Gold close out the regular season portion of the schedule with the Dick McGuire Invitational (Apr. 11-12) before beginning their postseason run, starting with the Summit League Championships on Apr. 24-26, where they have won the team title five out the six years since joining the league back in 2013.
Pioneers look to make a 19th straight trip to the NCAA Regionals on May 10.
NCAA Championships are set for May 21-26 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
