Quotable:
"It felt great to be here. I know we aren't allowed any fans but the energy was high. Our bench energy was great. This game speaks to our bounce-back ability. Against Wyoming, we didn't play great and we talked about it. We had two hard days of practice and the team showed up for 40 minutes tonight" – Head Coach
Doshia Woods
Turning Point:
Denver used a 27-16 run in a seven-minute span in the third quarter to stretch its lead to 65-52 with 1:51 left to play in the stanza. During the run, the Pioneers went 9-for-11 from the field and 6-for-6 from beyond the arc. Jackson had 12 points for the Pioneers in the run.
As it Happened:
First Quarter:
Both teams stretched the lead out to as many as five in the opening 10 minutes, but an 8-2 run to end the quarter gave the Pioneers a 21-20 advantage after the first.
Second Quarter:
A low scoring second quarter saw the Buffs tie things up heading into the locker room. Boyd led all scorers with 15 during the opening 20 minutes.
Third Quarter:
Denver stretched its lead out to 10 through three quarters through a 32-22 period. The Pioneers shot 9-for-13 in the third, while holding CU to 26% from the field. DU knocked down six of its seven from beyond the arc and hit 8-of-10 from the foul line in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
A
Claire Gritt put-back layup gave Denver a 13-point edge early in the quarter at 70-57 before Colorado went on a 13-0 run over the next 3:47 to tie things up at 70 apiece with 5:39 to play. Jackson and Boyd got the next two buckets to give Denver a four-point lead back with 4:09 to go. Boyd hit two crucial free throws down the stretch to make it 83-83, and CU split a pair on the other end of the floor to setup the final sequence. Woods used her final timeout to advance the ball, and Hein drew a foul before the in-bounds pass with 3.5 seconds to go. The Denver freshman knocked down the two most important free throws of her young Denver career for the final lead change of the game at 85-84. Denver's defense pressured the in-bounds pass and held CU without a shot on the final possession to earn the Power-5 win.
