Pioneers Complete First Day of Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate

Griggs tied for 21st through two rounds
Mobile, Ala. – The University of Denver men's golf team completed the first day of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate on Monday at the par-72, 7,212 yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. The Pioneers are tied for 10th with a 36-hole score of 580 (4-over) after posting back-to-back rounds of 290 (2-over).
"Overall, we didn't putt well and we were not sharp," said head coach Erik Billinger. "Our birdies conversion stat was really low and for some reason the Bermuda greens threw us off. I know we will put up a good team score tomorrow and get some confidence going."
Texas State leads the 14-team field with a two-round score of 553 (-23); followed by Florida State (559; 17-under) and No. 45-ranked Illinois (562; 14-under) to round out the top three.
After starting the day with six birdies in round one, Carson Griggs posted an eagle in the second round to finish the day tied 21st with a two-round total of 142 (2-under). Griggs finished the first round four-under par (68) for his fourth round par or better this season.
"Carson's 68 in the morning and his 2-under total for today was solid and it was fun to see him make 6 birdies and 1 eagle," Billinger added.
Jun Ho Won moved up six spots on the individual leaderboard following a second round score of 71 (1-under), his seventh round par or better this year. He currently sits tied 35th at even par (144).
A 16-spot jump in the second round has Connor Jones tied for 49th with a first day score of 146 (2-over). Jones utilized three second round birdies to make the jump, finishing the round with an 18-hole total of 70 (-2) for his fourth round of par or better in 2019-20.
John Sand is tied for 69th with a score of 150 (+6), while Cal McCoy posted a 151 (+7) to tie for 72nd heading into the final round tomorrow.
The third and final round of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate tees off Tuesday morning with a shotgun start.
