DU Finishes Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate

Griggs ties for 27th for season-low 54-hole total
Mobile, Ala. – The University of Denver men's golf team finished up its first tournament of the spring on Tuesday, finishing tied for 11th at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate. The Pioneers fired a team score of 1-under (287) for the final day of action.
Par for the 7,212-yard course was 72 at the Magnolia Grave Crossings Golf Course.
Head coach Erik Billinger went with the lineup Cal McCoy, Jun Ho Won, Carson Griggs, John Sand and Connor Jones.
Florida State took home the team title at 28-under for the three-round event, one stroke ahead of No. 14 Louisville.
FSU's 41st-ranked John Pak won individual medalist honors at 15-under, six strokes ahead of the nearest competition.
"I'm really proud of Carson for stepping up this week and finishing 2-under to lead the team," Billinger said. "He showed composure all week and hit the ball beautifully. Overall, the team looked solid but we didn't score well at all this week. We led the entire field in pars and finished low in the field on birdies, which means we didn't putt well and take advantage of the par 5s.
"I'm still glad we came down south to play in different conditions as we will only learn from this week and be better for it."
Griggs recorded his 54-hole low for the year with an even-par effort on Tuesday. The sophomore closed out the tournament tied for 27th at 2-under.
Won slipped six spots to tie for 40th at 1-over after a final-round 1-over on the afternoon.
Jones tied for 51st at 4-over.
Sand had his best round of the 54-hole tournament, jumping up 13 spots to tie for 55th with a 1-under 71 on the day.
McCoy bounced back with a 1-under performance on Tuesday to move up 12 spots to tie for 59th.
Denver heads back into action with the Wyoming Desert Collegiate on Feb. 21 in Palm Springs, Calif.
