Denver Tied for 7th After First Round of Wyoming Deset Intercollegiate

Sand tied for eighth
PALM DESERT, Cal. – The University of Denver men's golf team is tied for seventh after the first 18-holes of play on Friday at the par-72, 7,305 yard Classic Club. The Pioneers posted a 1-over (289) par.
Oregon leads the 21-team field at 10-under through 18 holes.
"It was a solid round today," assistant coach Brandon Wilkins said. "It is always nice to beat some solid Power-5 schools. We got off to a rough start, but we fought back. John and Carson had two great rounds, and we are looking forward to see how they progress throughout the spring. Looking forward to the challenge the next few rounds brings."
John Sand led the way with a 3-under par (69) performance with six first round birdies. He is tied for eighth after round one.
Carson Griggs carded four birdies on the first 18, finishing the day 2-under par (70). Griggs is tied for 14th heading into day two tomorrow.
Cal McCoy and Jun Ho Won each posted a first round total of 75 (3-over), tying 67th on the day. Connor Jones is tied for 94th with an 18-hole total of 78 (6-over).
Three Pioneers – Eric Hagen, Esteban Missura, and Jackson Solem – are competing as individuals. Solem fired four birdies in the first round, while scoring par or better on all 18 holes to finish with a 4-under (68) par day. He is tied for fourth going to the second round.
Hagen scored a 73 (1-over), tying for 42nd. Missura is tied for 81st with a total of 76 (4-over).
