DENVER – The University of Denver women's lacrosse team captured their third win of the season in a 21-7 victory over Oregon on Friday at Peter Barton Lacrosse stadium. With the victory, the No.10/11 Pioneers remained unbeaten on the year while the Ducks dropped to 1-3.
The Pioneers had 11 different goal scorers in the victory, scoring 15 of their 21 goals in the opening 30 minutes of play and putting 28 of their 42 shots on target. The Denver defense caused 11 turnovers, holding the Ducks to just 17 shots on the day.
Eliza Radochonski led the Denver offense with four goals while
Bea Behrins added three. Five other Pioneers each added two.
Season assist leader
Hannah Liddy led DU with five assists.
Defensively,
Sam Thacker and
Laura Milleker each recorded a team-high two caused turnovers while
Carson Gregg and
Eliza Hacke topped the ground-ball column with three each. Gregg spent 45 minutes in goal for the Pios, notching six saves while allowing six goals.
Amelia Cole finished things off for the Denver defense, recording two saves and allowing one goal in 15 minutes of play.
Despite the Ducks getting on the board first, the Pioneers caught fire in the first half, going on a game-breaking 8-0 run to take an 8-1 lead. Oregon responded with a 3-0 run of their own but a free-position goal from
Quintin Hoch-Bullen with 13:30 remaining in the half regained the Denver momentum. Radochonski netted a pair of goals in the closing minutes of the frame to give the Pioneers a ten-point advantage at 15-5 heading into the break.
Sammie Morton got things started for the Crimson and Gold in the second half, scoring her second goal of the day followed by
Caroline Wiseman to extend the Denver lead to 17-5. With 2:58 to go
Sarah McLean notched her first career goal right before
Rachel Karwacki found
Kayla DeRose for her first career assist with 27 seconds remaining in the game. Four different Pioneers scored to close out the contest helping lead Denver to a 21-7 win.
DU will have a quick turnaround as they prep for a Sunday matchup against Harvard (10 AM MT).
