PEORIA, Ariz. – Freshman
Anna Zanusso had a record-setting performance in the Westbrook Invitational with a Denver program record 54-hole score 200 (16-under) to claim medalist honors on Monday.
Â
She finished three strokes ahead of second place.
"
Anna Zanusso won her second event this year and was extremely confident, aggressive, and competitive," said head coach
Lindsay Kuhle. "She hit the ball extremely well this week but putted lights out. She made a lot of great par saves today and made a 20-footer from off the green on the last hole today for birdie to win by three. She was very steady and in control of her game all week. She's worked really hard to get to this point and feel this confident with every part of her game."
After tying an NCAA 18-hole record of 11-under (61) in the second round, Zanusso fired her third straight round below par with a final round score of 70 (2-under). The freshman led the individual field with 18 birdies in the tournament.
Â
The Pioneers finished fourth with a three-round total of 848 (16-under), just one stroke behind third-place College of Charleston at 17-under (847).
"I am so proud of the ladies today shooting 5-under and finishing this solid tournament we had going," Kuhle added. "Finishing fourth in this stacked field and beating a top-20 team by 13 strokes over the three days shows you where our ladies games are at and rewards our hard work up to this point.
"This team continues to work hard, support and encourage one another, and improve with each event. We are working on making improvements every round and every day, and we are doing just that. The team chemistry on this team with all eleven players is phenomenal and what keeps this team improving and working so hard. I'm excited for the weeks to come and preparation for Arizona's event."
Â
Mississippi State claimed the team title with a score of 832 (32-under), while Oklahoma finished second only one stroke back at 31-under (833).
Â
Mary Weinstein finished just outside the top-25, tying for 26th with a score of 215 (1-under). The senior recorded her second straight round of 71 (1-under) in Monday's final round.
Â
Alyson Bean carded her second round of the tournament under par with a third round 1-under par (71). She finished tied for 32nd at even par (216).
