No. 4 Denver Scores 197.250 on the Road on Friday

Karr’s perfect 10.0 on vault helps DU to tie program’s fourth-highest away score

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 4-ranked University of Denver women's gymnastics team scored a 197.250 on the road at No. 2 Florida on Friday, matching the team's top away score of the season. It also ties the fourth-highest score at an away meet in program history.

Senior Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) scored Denver's second perfect 10.0 of the season, doing so on vault. It is the second perfect score of her career and her first since doing so on vault as a freshman.

Junior Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) had the Pioneers' top all-around score with a season-best 39.700, which matches the eighth-best score in DU history. She set a new personal best with a 9.975 on vault and tied her career high on beam with a 9.900.

"They showed tremendous grit, determination and resiliency," head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart said. "They had to adapt and make adjustments, and they showed toughness from the start to the end of the meet.

She added, "This is a championship team. This is how champions finish."

The Pioneers began the meet on bars where freshman AK Subject (Wayzata, Minn.) set a new career high with a 9.900 to earn a share of DU's top score. Junior Emily Glynn (Longmont, Colo.) also scored a 9.900, which matched her season high. Lynnzee Brown had a 9.875, and sophomore Alexandria Ruiz (Lake Mary, Fla.) added a 9.850. Sophomore Natalie Morton stepped into the lineup for her first collegiate routine and earned a 9.575.

Denver rebounded in the second rotation on bars with a 49.425, which ties the 10th-highest score in school history and matches the third-highest score on the road. All six routines scored at least a 9.800, beginning with a 9.800 from Florida-native Ruiz. Freshman Emma Brown (Adel, Iowa) added a 9.825 while fellow freshman Amoree Lockhart (Fort Worth, Texas) posted a career-best 9.850. Lynnzee Brown again tied her personal best with a 9.900 in the lead off spot for the fourth time this year. Karr rebounded from an uncharacteristic mistake on bars to match her season high on beam with a 9.925, which sophomore Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) also scored.

DU added a 49.400 on floor for the team's second-highest score of the season and tying the sixth-best road score in program history. Lynnzee Brown scored a season high-tying 9.950 for the third time this season to lead the Pioneers' scoring. Karr had Denver's next highest score with a 9.900, and Ruiz set a new season high with a 9.875. Both of the Pioneers' remaining counted scores were above the 9.800 mark with Lockhart's 9.850 and Glynn's 9.825.

Despite going five-up, five-count on vault, Denver posted a season-best 49.325. Karr led the meet with her perfect 10.0 while Lynnzee Brown set a new career high with a near-perfect 9.975 to place second overall. Ruiz added a 9.800 while both Subject and Glynn earned 9.775s – Subject's becoming a new personal best.

Lynnzee Brown placed second in the final all-around standings with her season-high 39.700. Ruiz was only one tenth off her career high with a 39.325 while Karr tallied a 39.200.

DU finished second overall in the showdown of two top-five teams and three ranked in the top 20. Host No. 2-ranked Florida scored a 197.875 while No. 18 Iowa State placed third with a 196.800.

The University of Denver women's gymnastics team, presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, returns home for back-to-back meets, beginning with a February 16 meet against George Washington in Magness Arena.
