DU Finishes Day One of Arizona Wildcat Invitational

Three Pioneers tied for 17th

TUCSON, Ariz.  – The University of Denver Women's golf team wrapped up day one of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational on Monday, finishing tied for eighth. The Pioneers fired two-round total of 595 (19-over-par).

The three-round event is being played at the Sewailo Golf Club.

Par for the 6,627-yard course was 72.

No. 10 Arizona had total control on Monday, finishing with a team score of 18-under.

"It was a struggle out there for us the last 27 holes today," head coach Lindsay Kuhle said. "We didn't get off to a bad start, just weren't able to play with confidence and use our mental toughness to get back into the game.

"We didn't have a fourth score in the first round, and unfortunately, our 1-2-3 players struggled in the second round. Camille was extremely poised and confident all day long and shot and impressive 75-73 on this course."

Denver's lineup included Anna Zanusso, Mary Weinstein, Erika Danielsson, Alyson Bean, and Camille Enright. Alison Armstrong will compete as an individual.

"We need to take better advantage of the front nine tomorrow and limit our big numbers," Kuhle added. "Today was not our best golf counting eight scores at double bogey or more, and on a day like today in this field, it's going to cost the team score.

"Tomorrow I believe that we'll come back more focused and confident and ready to score and play Denver golf."

Enright had her moments on day one, firing a 75-73 in two rounds to finish tied at 17th at 4-over wither fellow teammates Zanusso and Weinstein.

Danielsson wrapped up her afternoon tied for 43rd with 36-hole total of 153.

Bean closed out tied for 57th.

Armstrong, competing as an individual, ended her day tied in 65th.

Final-round action is set for Tuesday.
