SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Denver women's golf team had one member recognized for their work off the course and in the classroom on Wednesday, being named to the 2020 Summit League Academic All-League Team in a release by the league.
Mary Weinstein was selected to the prestigious team for her academic success in 2019-20.
The Summit League Academic All-League team is voted on by a panel of sports information directors and faculty athletic representatives from the league's member institutions.
Freshmen and first-year competing student-athletes are not eligible for nomination. Student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.2 or higher and have competed in at least 50 percent of athletic competitions during the year.
This marks the second straight year for Weinstein being named to the team, who sports a 3.98 cumulative GPA while majoring in Finance.
Weinstein secured her place in program history with another stellar year as a senior in an abbreviated season, finishing as the school's all-time leader in scoring average (73.07). The Highlands Ranch native's 72.46 average in 2019-20 was the second lowest ever, only behind fellow teammate
Anna Zanusso's 71.63. Weinstein notched four top-10 finishes for the year, highlighted by a season-best third place at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Feb. 18.
"This is another fantastic and well deserved honor for Mary, who has worked so hard academically in her time here at DU," head coach
Lindsay Kuhle said. "To achieve a 3.98 GPA in Finance and to be one of our best performers on the golf program, speaks volumes to her work ethic, passion, and self-discipline.
"Mary has worked hard on her studies and is a perfect example of what it looks like to be a DU student-golfer with the commitment to accomplish the high standards we have within this program."
Weinstein continued to rack up Summit League Player of the Week awards, capturing two in the shortened season, most on the team, which upped her career total to six, the most ever by a Denver player.
