Pioneers Snap Bison’s Five-Game Winning Streak on Jeffcoat Block

Three Pioneers in double figures

FARGO – The University of Denver women's basketball team got a last-second stop on the defensive end to pick up a road victory in Fargo on Friday, 62-60 against North Dakota State in the Scheels Center.

Inside the Box Score:
  • Anna Jackson led the team with a team-high 14 points, going 4-for-5 from 3.
  • Claire Gritt had her third game this season in double figures with 10.
  • Uju Ezeudu added 12 points and nine rebounds.
  • Ryan Cobbins led the Bison with a game-high 18 points.

Significant Stats:
  • Pioneers made nine 3s on the day, the 12th time in 13 games they have made at least seven.
  • The Crimson and Gold had 15 assists, third straight game with at least that many.

Turning Point:
A monster block by Jasmine Jeffcoat at the end of regulation to seal the victory for the Pioneers.
 
As it Happened:
First Quarter:

A high-scoring affair broke out in the opening 10 minutes with Denver taking a 25-23 through one. Meghan Boyd led the way with seven points in the quarter, highlighted by the Pioneers really having it dialed in from deep, going for 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.
 
Second Quarter:
Both teams battled through cold spells in the quarter, with DU taking it 11-9. Jeffcoat helped the Crimson and Gold hold the lead, scoring six points in the quarter as Denver went into the half up 36-32.
 
Third Quarter:
Denver got 17 points in the quarter thanks to some solid shooting. North Dakota State though stayed close, cutting the Pioneer lead to two by the end of the quarter, 53-51.

Fourth Quarter:
The Crimson and Gold suffered through a scoring drought in the first three minutes to start the fourth before a free throw from Gritt at the 6:47 mark, upping her total to double figures. Denver really dialed up the defense in the closing minutes, with Jeffcoat delivering the final blow with a monster block as time expired to stop the NDSU layup from tying the game.

Up Next:
Denver (4-9, 2-3 Summit League) wraps up the series with game two against North Dakota State on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. MT.
