Pioneers Fall to Bison; Get Split in Season Series

Four Pioneers in double figures

FARGO – The University of Denver women's basketball team dropped its game against North Dakota State on Saturday, falling 74-56 in the Scheels Center. With the loss, the Pioneers split the season series with the Bison.

Inside the Box Score:
  • Uju Ezeudu led the DU attack with a team-high 15 points, her 12th game this season in double figures.
  • Claire Gritt and Anna Jackson each added 11 points.
  • Meghan Boyd scored 10 points.
  • Emily Dietz led the Bison with a game-high 17 points.

Significant Stats:
  • Denver's 56 points were it second lowest of the season.
  • The Crimson and Gold had its three-game streak of at least 15 assists snapped, finishing only with 10 on the night.

Turning Point:
A 19-5 run from NDSU that started in the late first that pushed it from down 20-16 to a 35-25 advantage by the 7:16 mark in the second quarter.
 
As it Happened:
First Quarter:

Ezeudu set the tone early for the Pioneers, scoring 10 points in the quarter while helping spark the offense into a strong start, jumping out to a 20-16 lead. North Dakota State, though, took control of the final three minutes, going on a 9-2 run to hold a three-point advantage after 10 minutes, 25-22.
 
Second Quarter:
A tough quarter offensively put the Crimson and Gold in a hole, resulting in an 11-point deficit at the half, 46-35. Denver got just 13 points in the quarter with Gritt leading the way with five in the quarter.
 
Third Quarter:
A defensive battle took place to start the second half, with the Pioneers holding the Bison to just eight points on 3-for-14 (21.4 percent) shooting. DU was able to cut into the NDSU lead, trailing by eight after three, 54-46.

Fourth Quarter:
A rough final 10 minutes put this one out of reach, with North Dakota State outscoring the Crimson and Gold 20-10 in the quarter.

Up Next:
Denver (4-10, 2-4 Summit League) heads home for a big series with South Dakota State on Jan. 29-30. Game one is set for Friday at 4 p.m. MT and can be seen on Altitude 2.
