VERMILLION, S.D. – The University of Denver men's basketball wrapped up its season series with South Dakota on Sunday, falling 79-57 at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

Sam Hines Jr. led the team with 14 points and four rebounds.
- Denver knocked down six 3s, fifth time this season making at least six 3s.
Inside the Box Score:
- Denver's 29.6 percent from the field was a new season low.
- Preseason Summit League Player of Year Stanley Umude had a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds.
- DU's 19 made free throws were the second highest this year.
Turning Point:
An 11-0 run from USD to close out the first half and take a 15-point lead into the half.
As it Happened:
First Half:
South Dakota raced out to a 12-1 advantage in the opening minutes before Denver settled in and fought its way back behind a 26-19 stretch over 10 minutes midway through the half to close to within four at 31-27. But a late 11-0 run from the Coyotes pushed their lead into double digits by the break, 44-29.
Second Half:
The Pioneers struggled with a cold-shooting slump in the final 20 minutes, going 8-for-30 (26.7 percent) from the field, allowing USD to win the half, 35-28.
Up Next:
Denver (1-8, 0-2 Summit League) gets a bye week this upcoming week and returns to action to host Oral Roberts for a pair of games on Jan. 15-16.
