Bartalo Named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week

Sophomore takes home the award for first time in career.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.  – University of Denver Volleyball sophomore Gianna Bartalo was named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Week in a release by the league on Tuesday.

This is the first time that the Colorado Springs native has won the award in her career.

Bartalo helped power the Pioneers to a 2-0 weekend on the road this year, pushing their winning streak to six in a row.

She picked up her first set of back-to-back 20+ digs on the season, highlighted by 22 in the win at St. Thomas on Oct. 21.

The Crimson and Gold held both teams to under a .200 hitting percentage for the weekend, improving to 18-0 this year when accomplishing the feat.

The Pioneers (18-2, 9-1 SL) are home this weekend for a match against Omaha on Saturday. First serve is set for 1 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.
