Denver Continues Stellar Road Play in Win at Oral Roberts

Pioneers take down Golden Eagles in straight sets

TULSA – The University of Denver Volleyball team bounced back on Monday, taking down Oral Roberts in three sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-22) at the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center. The Pioneers improved to 19-3 (10-2 SL) with the win.

  • DU has now won nine straight matches against the Golden Eagles.
  • The Pioneers' 19-3 start to the year is their best since 2018.
  • Denver is now 15-1 in its last 16 road matches dating back to Jan. 1.
  • The Crimson and Gold picked up their second win this season when allowing an opponent to hit at least .200.
Turning Point
An 11-6 run in the second by DU to tie things up at 17-17.

1st Set
Denver came out with flurry of points, taking a 7-2 advantage to start the night. Oral Roberts responded with a 6-1 run of its own to tie it at 8-8. The Pioneers were able to get some separation, going up 18-14 after an ace from Poulter, forcing the Golden Eagles to take a timeout. DU went on to take the first set, 25-21.

2nd Set
Both teams came out aggressively in the second, resulting in a 5-5 tie to start on some big attacks. ORU then went on 5-1 run to take a 11-6 lead, causing a timeout from Denver. The Pioneers rallied though with an 11-6 run to tie it at 17-17 after an attack error from Oral Roberts. Denver closed it out in style, behind a matching-breaking 8-5 run, to take it 25-22 and go up 2-0.

3rd Set
The Golden Eagles took command to open the third set, going up 6-1, making the Crimson and Gold take a timeout to regroup. Denver responded with a 3-0 run out the timeout to close to two at 6-4. DU got its first lead of the set after back-to-back kills from Bartalo made it 10-9, causing a timeout from ORU. Denver then built a four-point lead at 17-13. Green closed it out with her 11th kill to make it 25-22, giving the Pioneers the victory.

Up Next
The Pioneers (19-3, 10-2 SL) return home to play host to North Dakota on Thursday in Hamilton Gymnasium. First serve is set for 7 p.m. MT.
