SAN ANTONIO – The University of Denver men's basketball team came out aggressive on Monday night, using a dominant defensive performance to take out IUPUI, 63-47 at the Convocation Center. The Pioneers improved to 2-1 on the year with the victory.

KJ Hunt continued his hot start to the year, scoring a game-high 22 points, his second straight game with at least 22. Hunt continued his efficient shooting, going 9-for-13 from the field, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.

Michael Henn turned in his best performance of the young season, coming off the bench to score a season-high 22 points on 6-for-9 shooting, highlighted by a perfect 4-for-4 from 3.

Payton Moore delivered a solid all-around game, going for six points, eight rebounds and a season-most four steals.
Significant Stats:
- Denver picked up its first win away from Hamilton Gymnasium since Nov. 29, 2019.
- Pioneers forced the Jaguars into 21 turnovers, a season best by the DU defense.
- The Crimson and Gold picked up nine steals, third straight game with at least that many.
- The Pioneers made a season-most eight 3s in the win.
- The 47 points allowed were the lowest since a victory against Western Illinois on Feb. 28, 2019.
Turning Point:
A 9-0 run to close out the first half in the final 2:20 to make it a double-digit game, 37-19.
As it Happened:
First Half:
Neither team could get shots to go in the opening minutes, leading to 4-4 tie at the first media timeout at the 15:43 mark. The Pioneers came out of the timeout with a 9-0 run, powered by three baskets from Henn off the bench. Denver pushed its lead to eight mid-way through after a steal and score from Hunt, his ninth point of the night, to make it 22-14. DU snapped its cold spell, getting back to back 3s from Henn and
Coban Porter, to take its first double-digit lead of the game at 28-17. Denver closed with a flurry, going on a 9-0 run of the final 2:20 to take an 18-point advantage into the break.
Second Half:
Defense was key in the first six minutes of the half, holding IUPUI to just 2-for-8 shooting to start the period, leading a 40-26 lead with 14:34 to go. The Jaguars fought their way back, closing to 10 after a 3 from Bobby Harvey with 10 minutes left in regulation. The Pioneers fought off another cold stretch of shooting before going on a 6-0 run to push the lead back to 13 at 49-36 after a pair of free throws from
Jordan Johnson. Denver never let IUPUI closer than seven the rest of the night, pushing the lead back into double digits.
