Denver Hosts South Dakota in Summit Semis Thursday

The Pioneers and Coyotes drew 1-1 last Friday

DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team welcomes the Summit League Women's Soccer Championship to the University of Denver Soccer Stadium for the first time since 2014 this weekend. Top-seeded Denver will host South Dakota for the second time in a week in the first semifinal on Thursday at 1 p.m. MT. Second-seeded South Dakota State will take on third-seeded Omaha in the second match, scheduled for 4 p.m. MT. Thursday's winners will meet in the Summit League Final Saturday at 2 p.m. MT.

Last Time Out:
Sydney Sharp's 14th of the season opened the scoring in the 40th minute and Natalie Beckman converted a toe-poke from Sharp to double Denver's lead in the 66th to lead the Pioneers to a 2-0 win over South Dakota State on Sunday. With the win, Denver won the Summit League title outright, the Pioneers fourth-straight regular season title and their 12th conference crown since joining Division I in 1998-99. Denver had an 18-1 shot advantage, including 8-1 on target. Following the victory, the Pioneers honored their 10 undergraduate seniors and returning graduate students Brittney Lewis and Taylor Parker.
 
Denver vs. South Dakota History:

The Pioneers are 9-1-1 all-time against South Dakota. Friday's 1-1 draw broke a stretch of seven-straight wins for the Pioneers in the series. Beckman answered a Maddison Sullivan opener 3:53 later to earn the Pioneers a point on Friday. DU outshot USD 21-9, but just 6-4 on target.
 
Notable Stats:
  • The Pioneers are 62-13-4 in the Summit League regular season play since joining the conference in 2013.
  • Denver has scored 51 goals from 15 different players to start the 2021 season. Sharp leads the way with 14 goals, followed by 10 from Glover.
    • The Pioneers 51 goals is tied for the seventh-most in a season in Denver's DI history, 23 behind the school record of 74 in 2006.
    • Denver's 15 different goal scorers, the most in a season since the Pioneers school-record 18 different goal scorers in the 2006 campaign.
  • Career Points Record Update:
    • Beckman has 86 career points, good for sixth in Denver's Division I history
    • Feller has 81 career points, good for seventh.
    • Sharp has 58 career points, good for 16th in Denver's Division I history.  
  • Career Assists Record Update
    • Beckman has 44 career assists, the program record.
    • Feller has 25 career assists, good for tied for sixth in Denver's DI history.
  • Career Goals Record Update
    • Feller has 28 career goals, good for eighth in Denver's DI history.
    • Sharp has 24 career goals, good for 11th in Denver's DI history.
    • Beckman has 21 career goals, good for 13th in Denver's DI history.
  • Career Games Played and Games Started Update
    • Brittney Lewis has the program record for matches played with 96.
    • Lewis broke the career starts record on Sunday at 92.   
  • Single Season Goals Record
    • Sharp's 14 goals on the season are three behind the single-season record held by Jenni Harris and Taryn Hemmings.
    • Sharp entered the week as the only player in the country to score in 14 different games and in eight-consecutive matches this season. The consecutive goals streak was broken last Friday vs. South Dakota.
      • One player scored 8+-straight games this spring in BYU's Mikayla Colohan.
      • No player in the country scored in 14+ games in the spring. In 2019, seven different players scored in at least 14 games.
  • Single Season Assists Record
    • Beckman has 15 assists on the season, tying Nicholette DiGiacomo's 2010 campaign for the program record.
    • Beckman's assist is the Summit League single-season record (DiGiacomo played in the Sun Belt in 2010).
  • Single Season Game-Winning Goals Record
    • Sharp's seven game-winning goals is one behind Taryn Hemmings' eight in the 2008 season for the program record.
  • Head coach Jeff Hooker holds a record of 393-162-52 (.690) in his 30 seasons as the head coach of the Pioneers.
