DU Gymnastics Ranked No. 10 in Preseason Poll

Denver enters 2022 ranked inside top 10 nationally for third straight season

DENVER – The University of Denver gymnastics team is ranked No. 10 in the 2022 preseason coaches' poll, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced on Friday.

It marks the third consecutive season that Denver is ranked inside the top 10 to start the season following 2021's tie for No. 8 and 2020's No. 7 ranking.

Michigan holds the top spot in the poll, followed by Florida and Oklahoma. Utah and LSU round out the top five.

Reigning Big 12 Conference champion Denver is the second-highest ranked team in the conference, behind No. 3 Oklahoma and ahead of Iowa State at No. 20 and West Virginia at No. 30.

On Denver's schedule in 2022 are five teams that are ranked inside the top 25 in the preseason rankings. DU will host No. 10 Arkansas and No. 17 Oregon State during the regular season and Oklahoma and Iowa State in the 2022 Big 12 Championship. Denver will also travel to No. 22 Ohio State.

Five more of Denver's 2022 opponents appear in the preseason poll but are ranked outside the top 25.

DU finished the 2021 season ranked No. 10 in the country, making it three straight seasons that Denver was ranked inside the top 10 to end the year. The team earned a program-record No. 2 final ranking on bars, along with top-10 rankings on beam (No. 8) and floor (No. 9).

Denver returns 2021 seniors Lynnzee Brown, Emily Glynn and Mia Sundstrom for a fifth year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Brown advanced to the NCAA National Championships in the all-around and placed in the top 10 overall on bars, beam and floor. The Big 12 all-around, bars and floor champion, Brown posted three perfect 10.0s in the postseason last year including on both bars and floor in the NCAA Regional Final.

Three newcomers join DU for 2022 in freshmen Mia Hebinck and Momo Iwai, as well as junior transfer Emma Brown, who competed for Denver in 2020.

Fans can get their first look at the 2022 DU team at the annual Crimson & Gold Intrasquad on Sunday, December 19, at 2 p.m., which will be held in Magness Arena for the first time ever. Admission is free for all fans, though tickets are required and can be reserved online.

Season tickets, single meet tickets and group tickets are all on sale and can be purchased online or by calling 303-871-4625.
