Bartalo and Boe Named to Summit League Academic All-League Team

Duo each recorded a 4.0 GPA

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.  – University of Denver Volleyball graduate students Lydia Bartalo and Tina Boe each were recognized for their respective success in the classroom on Tuesday, being named to the Summit League Academic All-League Team in a release by the league.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.

Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's ten institutions and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FARs). The team is made up of the seven student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.

This marks the first time that Bartalo has earned the honor, while Boe picks up her notches her second time being selected to the team. Each of the two posted 4.0 GPAs during their first year in graduate school.

Bartalo is working on getting her master's degree in organizational leadership while Boe is getting master's degree in communication management.

For Bartalo, she caps off one of the most storied careers in Pioneer volleyball history. The Colorado Springs native earned her third straight All-Summit League First Team selection this past year.

She earned Trojan Invitational Most Valuable Player honors at Southern California to start the year on Aug. 28, helping guide the Pioneers to a 3-0 record at that tournament.

Bartalo was deadly with the serve all year, ranking fourth in the NCAA in aces per set (.61) and aces (63).

She also made some personal history, becoming just the third player in the program's DI era (1998-present) to record at least 1,000 career kills and digs in her collegiate career with the Crimson and Gold.

Boe is coming off her third straight All-Summit League First Team selection this past fall.

The fifth year graduate student took her game to another level in the fall season of 2021, ranking first in the Summit League in hitting percentage at .412, which also was 13th in all of the NCAA. She finished ranked third on the team in kills with a career-high 234. Not just an offensive force, Boe got it down in the middle around the net with 99 total blocks on the season, second on the team.

The Plymouth, Minn. native got her season off to a fast start, earning All-Tournament Team honors at the Trojan Invitational back in August.

The Crimson and Gold finished the year with 23-6 record.
