Roos Get Split Against Pioneers

Three Pioneers in double figures in loss

KANSAS CITY – The University of Denver women's basketball team couldn't hold off a hot-shooting Kansas City team on Saturday, falling 85-69 in the Swinney Center. The loss gave the Pioneers a split in the season series with the Roos.
 
Inside the Box Score:
  • Uju Ezeudu led the Denver attack with a team-high 20 points. The sophomore also added seven rebounds and a career-high six assists.
  • Tsimba Malonga finished with 17 points, her seventh game in double figures this season.  
  • Jasmine Jeffcoat added 10 points.
  • The Roos were led by a game-high 27 points and eight rebounds from Ravon Nero

Significant Stats:
  • Denver dropped to 1-7 this when allowing between 80-89 points.
  • The Crimson and Gold recorded its 17th game this with at least seven made 3s.  

Turning Point:
10-0 run in the second quarter to take Kansas City from down one at 18-17 to up nine, 27-18.
 
As it Happened:

First Quarter:
The Pioneers came out a little sluggish in the opening minutes, with four turnovers to start the game, allowing Kansas City to jump out to a 14-7 advantage by the first media timeout at the 4:01 mark. DU was able to close to within four by the end of the quarter after a 3 from Claire Gritt made it 17-13.

Second Quarter:
It was all UMKC in the second quarter, winning the 10-minute stretch 20-9. The Crimson and Gold suffered a cold drought during the quarter, going just 4-for-17 from the field.
 
Third Quarter:
Kansas City put this one out of reach in the quarter, pouring in 32 points to push its lead to 26 by the end, 69-43. UMKC just couldn't miss in the quarter, going 12-for-16 from the field, highlighted by knocking down four 3s.

Fourth Quarter:
DU won its lone quarter of the day, 26-16 against the Roos. The Pioneers posted a 52.1 shooting percentage in the quarter. 

Up Next:
Denver (6-14, 4-8 Summit League) wraps up the regular season at home with its final series of the year against Omaha. First game is set for Friday at 1 p.m. MT.
