NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 10-ranked University of Denver gymnastics team earned its second-highest score of the season (196.875) at No. 3 Oklahoma on Friday. OU had the meet's top score (197.175) with Texas Woman's finishing in third (193.650) and Lindenwood in fourth (191.625).
Senior
Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) won the all-around and two event titles including floor with a near-perfect 9.975.
SIGNIFICANT STATS
- The three-tenth margin between Denver and Oklahoma was the smallest between the teams since the 2019 Big 12 Championship, also held in Norman, Okla., where the margin was .325.
- Senior Emily Glynn (Longmont, Colo.) stuck her Tsukahara full, scoring a new career high of 9.925 to lead DU to a season-high 49.200 on vault.
- Denver's 49.225 on beam was the top score for any of the four teams on the event by more than two tenths.
- In addition to her wins in the all-around and on floor, Brown won a share of the bars title with a season high-tying 9.950. The senior has won at least one title in every meet this season.
BARS RECAP
DU began the evening on bars with five counted scores of at least 9.800, totaling a 49.275. Brown again led the scoring for Denver with a 9.950, tying for the top score of the meet. Glynn added a 9.875, which was just .025 off her season high, and junior
Alexandria Ruiz (Lake Mary, Fla.) led off the rotation with a 9.850. Freshmen
Rosie Casali (Weddington, N.C.) and
Rylie Mundell (Parker, Colo.) had the team's final counted scores with matching 9.800s.
BEAM RECAP
For the second rotation in a row, all five of Denver's counted scores were 9.800 or higher for a 49.225 team tally. Brown and junior
Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) had DU's top routines with 9.875s in the leadoff and anchor positions, respectively. Freshman
Isabel Mabanta (Frisco, Texas) made her third-straight lineup appearance, adding a 9.850. Ruiz scored a 9.825 while Mundell earned a 9.800 immediately following a fall.
FLOOR RECAP
Brown highlighted the entire competition with her near-perfect 9.975 on floor – the highest score for any gymnast on any event. Freshman
Jessica Hutchinson (Gilbertsville, Pa.) added a new career high with a 9.900, and Glynn and Ruiz each tallied a 9.825. Casali's 9.650 was the team's final counted score, giving DU a 49.175 overall.
VAULT RECAP
Denver finished the meet with its best vault rotation of the year with Glynn's career-high 9.925 leading the team to a 49.200. Brown and Hutchinson each scored a 9.850 while Mundell added a 9.800 – again only competing a Yurchenko full rather than her one-and-a-half. Senior
Mia Sundstrom (Boulder, Colo.) returned to competition after missing four meets and scored a 9.775.
