Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Denver Wins Gold Pan with 4-0 Shutout

DENVER  – Magnus Chrona logged a 29-save shutout as the Denver Pioneers hockey team retained the Gold Pan with a 4-0 win against the Colorado College Tigers on Saturday at Magness Arena.

Turning Point
Cole Guttman's back-to-back power-play goals at 9:50 and 10:19 of the second period gave Denver a four-goal lead by the midway point of the game.

Quotable
"Magnus was really good again for us. He kept us in the hockey game and in many moments he made lots of good saves. Pucks stuck to him and he had to make secondary saves point blank as well. It was his best performance in back-to-back games. It was really nice to see him elevate himself and help the team when we needed him." – Richard and Kitzia Goodman Head Coach David Carle

First Period
Carter Savoie collected the rebound from Jaakko Heikkinen's shot, curled behind the net and fired no-look wrist shot back toward the goal. The shot snuck through Mike Vernon's legs to make it 1-0 for Denver at 7:08 and the Pioneers never looked back. Denver extended its lead late in the period with Connor Caponi burying the rebound from Hank Crone's one-timer. The second goal came nine seconds after the expiration of Denver's first power play of the game.

Second Period
Special teams paved the way for a 4-0 Denver lead by the second intermission. Guttman scored twice on the power play in 29 seconds and Denver's penalty kill improved to 6/6 in the game, going 4/4 in the second period. Guttman's first goal was a one-timer from Bobby Brink. His second was a rebound from Antti Tuomisto's shot that gave the Pioneers a four-goal lead by 10:19.

Third Period
Offense was limited with the teams combining for only 13 shots. Chrona made six saves to complete the shutout.
