TULSA – The Denver Pioneers volleyball team rallied to pick up its fifth straight win on Sunday, dropping Oral Roberts 3-2 in the Cooper Aerobics Center.
Turning Point
Denver closing the match with a 4-1 run in the fifth and final set to get the road win.
1st Set
Oral Roberts recovered from a sluggish start to take the first set, 25-19. The Golden Eagles were effective when going on the attack, posting a .333 attack percentage that also featured two service aces.
2nd Set
Denver got itself back into the match with a 25-20 win featuring 11 kills on a .267 attack percentage. The Crimson and Gold were able to held off any run from ORU, closing with a 10-8 run to take the set and tie it up at 1-1.
3rd Set
Both teams traded points with DU taking an 8-7 advantage to start the set. The Pioneers found some separation after that, using a 12-8 run to build a five-point lead at 20-15 and force Oral Roberts to take a timeout. The Golden Eagles responded by closing to within three at 23-20. Denver took a timeout and came out strong, taking the set 25-20 with a set-clinching ace from
Lydia Bartalo.
4th Set
ORU took command of the fourth set with a 25-20 victory to force a decisive fifth set. The Golden Eagles were deadly on the attack with 15 kills coming from a .361 attack percentage in the set.
5th Set
Denver took an early 4-2 advantage after a kill from Briana Green. ORU closed the deficit to one at 9-8, which resulted in a timeout from the Pioneers.
Inside the Box Score
-Denver improved to 13-2 all-time against Oral Roberts.
Significant Stats
- Bartalo recorded a season-high six aces.
- Katarina Marinkovic had a team-high 11 kills.
