No. 11 DU Ties Third-Highest Road Score in School History

Denver edges out victory over No. 12 BYU in Thursday’s regular-season finale

PROVO, Utah – The No. 11-ranked University of Denver gymnastics team tied the third-highest away score in program history at No. 12 BYU on Thursday, topping the Cougars 197.375-197.300 in the team's final meet of the regular season.
 
SIGNIFICANT STATS
  • DU earned three event scores above 49.400 – and two of at least 49.500 for the second week in a row.
  • Denver's 49.575 on beam is the third-highest score in school history and second-highest road score, as well as a new season high.
  • On floor, DU was just one tenth off last week's season high with a 49.500, which becomes the fourth-highest road score in school history.
  • Senior Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) captured at least a share of all five individual titles including winning in the all-around with a 39.775, her second-highest score of 2021 and a new DU record for top score at an away meet.
  • Freshman Jessica Hutchinson (Gilbertsville, Pa.) returned to the all-around for the first time since January 31, scoring three career highs including a 39.500 in the all-around.
BARS RECAP
Denver opened the competition on bars with its best road performance of the season, finishing with a 49.425 and three scores of 9.900 or higher. Brown and Hutchinson led the meet with matching 9.950s – a new career high for the freshman – and senior Emily Glynn (Longmont, Colo.) added a 9.900. Junior Alexandria Ruiz (Lake Mary, Fla.) led off the rotation with a 9.825, and freshman Rylie Mundell (Parker, Colo.) had a 9.800 for DU's final counted score.
 
VAULT RECAP
Brown won her second title of the night with a 9.900 on vault to lead Denver in the second rotation. Hutchinson added a 9.800, Glynn a 9.750 and Ruiz a 9.725. Mundell and junior Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) each had a 9.700.
 
FLOOR RECAP
DU's 49.500 on floor was the team's highest road score of the year. For the third meet in a row, Brown was just shy of perfection, scoring a meet-high 9.975. Glynn placed second overall with her 9.925, which ties the career high she set last week. Hutchinson's 9.900 gave DU three scores of 9.9+ while fellow freshman Abbie Thompson (Sanford, Fla.) matched her personal best with a 9.875. Freshman Rosie Casali (Weddington, N.C.) returned to the lineup after not competing last week, scoring a 9.825 to also tie her career high.
 
BEAM RECAP
Denver secured the victory with its strongest rotation of the night, earning four scores of 9.900 or higher to finish with a 49.575. In the leadoff position, Brown set a new personal best with a 9.950, which Thompson matched in the next routine for her own new career high. Vasquez anchored the lineup with a 9.925 – equaling her top road score of the year – while freshman Isabel Mabanta (Frisco, Texas) tied her personal best with a 9.900. Hutchinson competed on beam for the first time since February 21, adding a career-high 9.850, and Ruiz gave DU six scores at or above a 9.800.
