[25] Denver Stays Perfect in BIG EAST Play with Win Over Georgetown

The Pioneers defeated the Hoyas 15-11 Friday in the first of two rematches of the 2019 BIG EAST Championship Game

DENVER  – The [25] University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated Georgetown 15-11 on Friday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
 
Inside the Box Score:
Hannah Liddy led the Pioneers with four tallies on seven shots. Julia Gilbert netted a hat trick, Kailey Conry had five points on two goals and three helpers and Eliza Radochonski added four points on two goals and two helpers.
 
On the defensive side, Molly Little had four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Gracie DeRose added three caused turnovers and Curry forced two turnovers of her own. Abby Jenkins controlled nine draws and Sam Thacker added five draw controls.
 
First Half:
Gilbert opened the scoring 4:09 in the game to start a 3-1 run for the Pioneers in the opening 10 minutes of the first half. Liddy scored her first of three in the first half to answer Georgetown's first goal of the afternoon, and Bea Behrins capped the mini-run with her 14th of the season.
 
Back-to-back goals from Radochonski highlighted the scoring in the middle part of the half and Liddy completed her first-half hat trick with two goals in the final 7:12, including putting an end to a 3-1 Georgetown run with 37 seconds left on the clock to give Denver the momentum back and a two-goal lead heading into the intermission.
 
Second Half:
The Pioneers opened the second half on a 5-0 run in the first 13 minutes of the second half. Conry found the back of the net 54 seconds in, followed by goals from Liddy, Ellie Curry and two more from Gilbert to force a Georgetown timeout after the Pioneers lead ballooned to 13-6 with 21:22 to go.
 
The Hoyas got a goal to stop the run, but Caroline Wiseman became the seventh different Pioneer to score in the first three-fourths of the contest to double up the Hoyas at 14-7 with 15 minutes to play.
 
Mackenize Wallevand struck the twine off a feed from Radochonski in transition with 14:21 to go, the eighth Pio to score to push the lead to eight. Georgetown responded with four-straight of its own and held the Pioneers scoreless in the final 14:21, but the Pioneers held on to the 15-11 win.
 
Up Next: Denver will close out its six-game homestand on Sunday when the Pioneers and Hoyas wrap-up their two-game set from Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Opening draw is set for 11 a.m. MT.
