DENVER – The [25] University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated Georgetown 15-5 on Sunday at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. With the victory,
Liza Kelly earned career win No. 250 (250-105).
Inside the Box Score:
Bea Behrins led the Pioneers with five goals, followed by the completion of a seven-goal weekend for
Julia Gilbert, who backed up her first career hat trick on Friday with four goals on Sunday.
The Pioneers spread the ball around on the afternoon with
Caroline Wiseman,
Mackenzie Wallevand and
Hannah Liddy all adding a pair of tallies in the 10-goal win.
On the defensive side,
Amelia Cole made a career-high 11 saves in the victory.
Molly Little led the Pioneers with three caused turnovers.
Sam Thacker and
Sammie Morton had two caused-turnovers apiece.
Abby Jenkins controlled five draws, Thacker added three, and Little picked up a pair.
First Half:
Denver ended the first half on a 6-1 run to take a 7-2 advantage into the intermission. Behrins sandwiched her first two goals of a first-half hat trick around a Natalia Lynch tally in the first nine minutes. Gilbert continued her hot weekend to push the lead to 3-1 before Lynch's second to cut the lead back to 3-2.
The Pioneers 4-0 run to end the half included goals from Behrins, Wiseman, Wallevand and Liddy.
Second Half:
Liddy's and Wiseman's second goals of the game alternated with a pair of Georgetown goals to open the scoring in the second half. The Pioneers then ripped off five-straight goals to blow the game open at 14-4. Behrins earned her fourth and fifth goals, Gilbert completed her second-straight hat trick, and Wallevand got her second of the day in the run.
Gilbert rounded out the scoring with 6:23 to go, her fourth of the afternoon.
Up Next: Denver will hit the road for four straight in BIG EAST play, starting with a two-game set at UConn. Opening draw on Friday (April 9) is set for 1 p.m. MT.
