Pioneers Sweep Both Golfer of the Week Awards for 2nd Time This Spring

Drocarova and Griggs recognized for play this past weekend

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Both the University of Denver Golf teams had their top finishers recognized for their play this past weekend, sweeping the Summit League Men's and Women's Golfer of the Week awards in a release by the league on Wednesday.

Freshman Katarina Drocarova on the women's side and junior Carson Griggs on the men's side were the recipients of the league's weekly award.

This marks the second time this season that both teams have won the award in the same week, with Jackson Solem and Camille Enright doing it back on Jan. 28.

Drocarova continued her impressive freshman campaign, tying for 17th at 1-over in a deep and talented field. The Slovakian posted two rounds of par-or-better in the 54-hole event.

"She was phenomenal again this week at ASU; very consistent and solid off the tee," head coach Lindsay Kuhle said. "She's a competitor and can go low every round she plays because of her consistency with her long game. This week she played solid and made quite a few birdies and gave herself great looks. I was most proud of her par 3 scoring at 2-under where she led the field."

Griggs picked up his second golfer of the week honor this year, this time for his play at The Goodwin. The junior from Oklahoma tied for 21st at over in a 28-team field that featured five top-50 teams from across the country.

"Carson has been trending well this spring, so it was great to see him continue that at Stanford this week," head coach Trake Carpenter said. "He improved his score each round and was really solid the final round when we needed someone to step up We have been focusing on eliminating the big numbers all spring and he was able to do that this week.

"I was most proud of a situation midway through the final around where he made a mature decision that led to a bogey versus trying to be a hero and bringing a bigger score into play. Being able to make those decisions to keep the team first when it's tempting to keep a bogey-free round alive with a great shot, will allow us to keep growing as a group as we approach the postseason this spring."

The women's team returns to action with the Dick McGuire Invitational on Apr. 11 while the men hit the course for the Stitch Intercollegiate on Apr. 9.
