Brown Adds Three All-American Honors at NCAA Nationals

Denver gymnast posts three 9.9+ routines in Friday’s NCAA National Semifinal I

FORT WORTH, Texas – University of Denver gymnast Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) delivered some of the best individual performances in program history at the NCAA National Gymnastics Championships on Friday.

In Semifinal I, Brown earned at least a 9.900 in three of her routines, making her the first Denver gymnast to do so at an NCAA National Championships. For the second time in her career, she added Postseason All-American honors on the three events – bars, beam and floor – as well.

SIGNIFICANT STATS
  • Brown's 9.9125 on beam ties the second-highest NCAA Nationals score on the event in Denver history.
  • On bars, she scored a 9.900, which also ties her own mark for the program's second-highest NCAA Nationals bars score.
  • Her 9.9375 on floor ties for the fourth-highest score on the event by a DU gymnast at the NCAA National Championships. It is also one of the top six routines in DU's NCAA Nationals history by score on any event.
MEET RECAP
Brown opened the meet with a 9.900 on bars, capped by a perfect handstand into her signature double layout dismount. The score would finish in a tie for fifth-highest in the meet.

In the second rotation, she added a 9.9125 on beam with a solid routine from the start and ended with another stuck dismount. It was an improvement over both of her scores from NCAA Regionals on the event and again tied for fifth in the session. It was also the top score on beam from an individual qualifier.

On floor, she demonstrated why she entered the day as a defending NCAA national champion on the event, opening with a stuck double layout. After ending with a big double pike, she finished with a 9.9375 to tie for third in the semifinal, which was also the top floor score by an individual qualifier by a half tenth.

She finished the meet on vault but went too hard for the stick on her Yurchenko one-and-a-half. Despite sitting down after the landing, she scored a 9.3375 and ended with a 39.0875 in the all-around.

ALL-AMERICAN STATUS
Brown collected three more All-American honors following Friday's meet. On floor, she earned first-team status with her tie for third in the first semifinal, marking her second-straight such honor after doing so in 2019.
She also repeated as a second team Postseason All-American on both bars and beam after tying for fifth in the meet on each event.

The DU senior now owns a combined 17 All-American honors, seven of them coming in the postseason.

The Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association awards Postseason All-American honors based on final event standings in each of the national semifinal sessions. The top four competitors on each event and in the all-around (including ties) earn first-team honors while competitors in places fifth through eighth (including ties) earn second-team honors.

WHAT'S NEXT
Brown and the field will await the results of the second semifinal, set for 4 p.m. MT. Results from both semifinal competitions are combined to determine the final individual standings and podium finishes.

Update: Brown placed in the top 10 on bars, beam and floor after results from both semifinals were combined. Read more for the full details.
