TULSA – The [43] University of Denver men's tennis program cruised to a 6-1 win over Oral Roberts in the Pioneers Summit League opener on Friday afternoon at the Bernis Duke Tennis Center.
Doubles:
Denver earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles and had the lead on the No. 2 court. Matt Summers and James Davis combined for a 6-4 win on the top court, while Ignacio Rivero Crespo and Nicolas Herrero Cuesta took the No. 3 court 6-3.
Singles:
Entering the day with an 8-1 record on the No. 3 court, Summers got bumped up the lineup on Friday to the No. 2 court, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 to improve to 9-3 on the year. Davis also improved to 9-3 on the year in singles with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory on the No. 3 court.
Rivero Crespo and Herrero Cuesta stretched their singles-match winning streaks to four with 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-4 wins, respectively.
Peter Sallay improved to 9-2 on the season in singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win on the No. 4 court.
UP NEXT:
The Pioneers will play three Summit League matches in three days next weekend, beginning with two home matches against Omaha (April 9) and Drake (April 10) before hitting the road to take on North Dakota (April 11).
