DENVER – The [17/14] University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated Villanova 19-9 on Sunday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Denver won its 12
th-straight game and capped off the BIG EAST regular season campaign 10-0.
Inside the Box Score:
Hannah Liddy led the Pioneers with seven points on a goal and six more assists to bring her weekend total in the series to 12.
Bea Behrins had six points on five goals and an assist.
Eliza Radochonski had five goals and
Caroline Wiseman had three goals and a helper.
Mackenzie Wallevand rounded out Denver's 3+ point getters with a goal and two assists.
Sam Thacker led Denver's defense with three caused turnovers to go with two from
Kailee Lammers.
Molly Little led the Pioneers with five draw controls, including her 200
th career draw control.
Abby Jenkins had four.
First Half:
The Pioneers opened the game on a 3-0 run with three goals and five points from five different seniors in the first 2:17.
Quintin Hoch-Bullen got Denver started nine seconds in off Liddy's first assist of the afternoon. Behrins converted a Wallevand assist for her 37
th goal of the season to make it 2-0 and Radochonski made it 3-0 with her first goal of a first-half hatty.
Villanova scored three of the next five with goals from Wiseman and
Bryn McCaughey for Denver in the run.
Denver responded with the next five and six of the last seven in the opening half to push the halftime lead to 11-4. Behrins sandwiched her second and third goals of the day around a Liddy tally. Radochonski scored with 14:06 and 10:45 to play to make it 10-3. After Brittany Bruno's hat trick goal for the Wildcats, Wiseman's second rounded out the first half scoring with 1:42 to go.
Second Half:
Villanova opened the half on a 3-0 run, before the Pioneers responded with six of the next seven. Radochonski started the Denver run, before
Sammie Morton found the back of the net in transition for her third of the campaign and Wallevand nailed a free-position chance with 20:15 to go. Behrins started the next three-goal run before another Radochonski tally and a goal from
Kailey Conry. Wiseman capped off her hat trick with 9:39 to go and Behrins 41
st of the season concluded the Denver scoring.
Significant Stats
- Molly Little became the second player in Denver's Division I history to pick up 200 draw controls in her career.
- Eliza Radochonski's hat trick was her fifth of the season and the 19th of her career.
- Bea Behrins hat trick was the 24th of her career, including her eighth this season.
Up Next: Denver will wrap-up the regular season on Thursday night when the Pioneers host Colorado. Opening draw is set for 7 p.m. MT, live on Altitude TV. The Pioneers will then head to the nation's capital for the BIG EAST Tournament, presented by Jeep. Denver and Villanova will meet again in the semifinals on May 6 at a time TBD.
