DENVER – The University of Denver women's golf team found out on Wednesday that it will head to the Stanford Regional in Stanford, Calif., for NCAA postseason play. The Pioneers received the No. 10 seed that was revealed on the NCAA Selection Show, which aired on the Golf Channel.
This marks the 19th straight year that DU has appeared in a regional. The Crimson and Gold are coming off winning the Summit League Championship on Monday in Newton, Kan., at the Sand Creek Station Golf Club.
The Stanford Regional will be played at the Stanford Golf Course, and the Cardinal will serve as the host institution.
"Really excited to be going back to Stanford," head coach
Lindsay Kuhle said. "To make this the 19th straight year for the program is incredible. We have been to Stanford a couple years ago for the Condoleezza Rice Stanford Invitational and back in 2014 for the West Regional. Two of our players in Camille and Mary have already played there, and they like it."
Wake Forest received the No. 1 seed for the regional, followed by Oklahoma State, Southern California and Virginia Tech.
"We were ranked in the top 40 in both polls, and the girls deserved to be rewarded by the committee with the 10 seed," Kuhle said. "Coming off two straight wins at New Mexico and the Summit League Championship, it's giving our ladies more and more confidence. We are trending in the right direction and gaining more confidence every time we play."
Also joining the Crimson and Gold are host Stanford, Arizona, Florida, Northwestern, Iowa State, TCU, San Diego State, Pepperdine, San Jose State, New Mexico State, Cal Poly, Sacramento State and Navy.
The top six teams and three individuals on non-advancing teams will advance on to the NCAA Championships.
The Pioneers look to use their depth to make a mark this year at the regional. Denver had all five of its players make the All-Summit League teams at the league championship.
Camille Enright,
Anna Zanusso and
Katarina Drocarova were first-team selections, while
Mary Weinstein and
Alyson Bean were named to the second team.
Play for the NCAA Regional is set to begin on May 10.
