[-/27] Denver Shuts Out Kansas City, 1-0

The Pioneers will clinch the No. 1 seed in the Summit League Tournament with at least a draw in the regular season finale Sunday

KANSAS CITY, Mo.  – Natalie Beckman scored on a first-half free kick and the [-/27] University of Denver women's soccer team kept its eighth clean sheet of the season to take the Pioneers past Kansas City on Friday at Durwood Soccer Stadium. Denver needs at least a point Sunday to clinch the No. 1 seed in next week's Summit League Women's Soccer Championship.

First Half:
Denver had all the possession in the opening 45 minutes, and created chances, but couldn't get shots on target throughout the majority of the first half. The Pioneers outshot the Roos 9-1 in the first half, putting just one of the attempts on target.

Beckman got her goal in the 43rd minute, a free kick from 20 yards out. Sami Feller drew a foul just outside the area, and after having her first free kick earlier in the half sail over the bar, Beckman bent her second attempt into the side netting for her 10th goal of the season and the 16th of her career.

Second Half:
Kansas City got back into the game a bit in the second half, but the Pioneers limited the quality of Roos' chances to see out the shutout.

Denver outshot KC 14-4 in the match, including 5-1 on target.

Significant Stats:
  • Beckman became the 19th player in the program's DI history to reach double digits in goals in a single season, and the first to do it since Jessie Dancy scored 14 times in the 2017 season.
  • Denver held its opponent to one shot on goal or less for the fourth time this season.
Up Next:
Denver and Kansas City will close out their two-match series on Sunday at 12 p.m. MT at Durwood Soccer Stadium.
