LOUISVILLE – The University of Denver men's lacrosse team,
presented by Your Front Range Toyota Stores, placed six student-athletes on the 2021 USILA All-America list, the coaches' association announced on Thursday.
Jack Hannah and
Danny Logan were both named to the first team,
Colin Squires earned a spot on the third team and
Jackson Morrill,
TD Ierlan and
Ethan Walker earned honorable mention recognition on Thursday.
Hannah finished second on the team in goals in 2021 with 37, to go with 10 assists for 47 points from the Denver midfield. The Milford, Ohio, native had a goal in 16 of Denver's 17 games, including eight hat tricks and four goal games against Georgetown and North Carolina.
Logan captained Denver's defensive midfield, tallying nine points on four goals and five assists to go with 45 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. The Upper Arlington, Ohio, native had two points on a goal and an assist in Denver's win over Providence, and assisted postseason goals against Providence and Loyola.
Squires captained the Denver defense, picking up 34 ground balls, and causing 10 turnovers, while drawing the defensive assignment for the opponents' top attackmen for all of Denver's 2021 opponents. Squires had five ground balls in games against Duke, Villanova and Georgetown, and earned multiple caused turnovers in wins against Air Force and Villanova.
Walker played and started in 15 of Denver's 17 contests in 2021, leading the team in goals with 39, finishing second on the team in points with 60 and third on the team in assists with 21. Walker finished his Pioneer career first in career points (279), second in career goals (181) and first in career assists (98). Walker had multiple goals in 12 games, including five goal games at Villanova and at Air Force. Included in his 12 multi-goal games was seven hat tricks to bring his career total to 32.
Morrill led the Pioneers in points with 70 on 33 goals and a school single-season record 37 assists. The Yale transfer had 15 points in Denver's final three games, including seven on three goals and four assists in the BIG EAST Semifinal against Providence earlier this month. Morrill had two goals and two helpers in Denver's BIG EAST Final loss to Georgetown, and netted his seventh hat trick of the season in the NCAA First Round against Loyola on Sunday.
In the final nine games on Denver's calendar this year, Ierlan gave Denver a 1-2 punch at the faceoff dot, going 86-118 (.729) from the stripe, while picking up 57 ground balls on the 86 wins. Ierlan closed out his collegiate career as the best statistical faceoff specialist in NCAA history. Ierlan went 17-of-19 with 11 ground balls and one assist in Denver's NCAA First Round game against Loyola on Sunday.
