WASHINGTON D.C. – Eliza Radochonski became Denver's second student-athlete to net a sock trick in a conference tournament game to lead the [15/14] University of Denver women's lacrosse team past Villanova 16-9 on Thursday evening at Cooper Field.
The victory for Denver is its 14
th-straight.
Inside the Box Score:
Radochonski had a sock trick to go with an assist to a game-high seven points on the evening.
Hannah Liddy also had seven points on a hat trick and four assists.
Kailey Conry had a program conference tournament record five assists to lead the Pioneers in the category.
Bea Behrins and
Julia Gilbert rounded out the hat trick quartet with three goals apiece.
Sammie Morton and
Sam Thacker had three caused turnovers apiece, while Thacker added three draw controls around the circle.
Amelia Cole stopped 50% of the shots she faced, saving nine of 18 on Thursday.
First Half:
Denver and Villanova alternated the first six goals before Villanova took a 4-3 lead with 11:23 to go in the opening half. Gilbert,
Caroline Wiseman and Radochonski scored the early Denver goals in the half.
The Pioneers scored five of the next six to end the first 30 minutes, part of a 9-2 run that extended into the second half. Radochonski had two, Gilbert had two and Liddy had another in the late-first half run for Denver.
Second Half:
Behrins, Liddy and two more from Radochonski capped the 9-2 run for Denver with Liddy's run-capper coming with 18:41 to go in regulation.
A second half hat trick from Behrins led the Pioneers in the stanza as she added her 44
th and 45
th of the season to continue to cushion Denver's lead, pushing it to seven at 14-7. Liddy and Radochonski answered a pair of Villanova tallies to close out the Thursday night scoring.
Significant Stats:
- Radochonski became the second player to record a sock trick in a conference tournament game, joining Kristie Leggio's 2007 MPSF Final performance against Stanford.
- Conry's program record five assists was one more than Liddy's four on the day, which tied with three other Pioneers who formally held the record for second.
