COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Third-year University of Denver Assistant Volleyball Coach
Jessica Aschenbrenner was named an Assistant Coach for this summer's U.S. Women's Indoor U20 National Team in an announcement by USA Volleyball on Wednesday.
The Colorado native will join the team for the 2021 FIVB Women's U20 World Championship, which will be held from July 9-18.
"I am incredibly honored to be a part of USA Volleyball and to represent our country with this incredible staff," Aschenbrenner said. "This is a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow as a coach and help athletes develop their potential on an international stage."
The team will travel to compete in the Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Kortrijk, Belgium for the 10-day event.
"I am excited for this opportunity for Jessica," head coach
Tom Hogan said. "She has earned this chance to continue to grow her knowledge and understanding of the game through her hard work and commitment to being the best possible coach she can be. Her passion for the game and helping young female athletes grow, both as players on the court and off in life, is second to none. She is going to do great over in Europe and come back and make us better as a program."
The U.S. Women's U20 Indoor National Team will train from June 28 - July 8 in Las Vegas with a group of 20 selected players before departing for Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Kortrijk, Belgium to compete in the 2021 Women's U20 World Championship with a 12-member roster.
Aschenbrenner is part of a staff that will be led by Dan Fisher, the head coach at the University of Pittsburgh.
Most of the U20 NTT members have graduated high school. Ten are entering their first year of college this fall, and six will begin their second. Four are currently high school seniors. Any woman born in 2002 or 2003 is eligible for the U20 NTT.
In the summer of 2019, Aschenbrenner was part of the U.S. Collegiate National Team-Anaheim Program staff in addition to serving as an assistant coach at the USA High Performance Championships with the Girls Youth A1 Program at the USA High Performance Championship.
Aschenbrenner continues her rise in the volleyball coaching world, recently being named an AVCA Thirty Under 30 winner back in April, which recognizes the top 30 assistant coaches in the country under the age of 30 in 2020.
In the spring of 2021, Aschenbrenner was instrumental in her role as a second-year assistant coach, helping lead the Crimson and Gold to a regular-season Summit League Championship with a 13-2 mark, including posting the first perfect undefeated road record (8-0) in program history.
The former Cherry Creek standout, who serves as offensive coordinator, has helped take a Pioneer team to dominant heights on that end of the floor, with the team ranking at the top of the Summit League in aces per set (2.28), assists per set (12.54), hitting percentage (.267), kills per set (13.48) and team services aces (114).
The high level of success led to the selection of four first-team All-Summit League players in
Lydia Bartalo,
Tina Boe,
Ellie Anderson and
Brianna Green.
