Grad senior guard Indeya Sanders (Indy) is joining the Denver women's basketball team in 2021-22 after four seasons at American. Sanders averaged 36.5 minutes per game in her senior season, averaging 7.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She earned Patriot League All-Defensive Team honors as a junior.
 
Q&A with Sanders
What made you fall in love with the game of basketball?
I was inspired to play by my dad and sister. As I began playing at the AAU level, I developed lifelong bonds with teammates. Those same teammates exposed me to a high-intensity and contagious energy style of play that made the game more enjoyable.
 
When did you know you could play at the Division I level?
I realized I could play at this level when I started receiving camp invites to Division I schools. I knew that if my name was circulating at that age that I had potential as a player with a bright future.
 
What is your favorite basketball moment?
AAU holds some of my favorite basketball moments. I met my two best friends through AAU and influential adult figures who still show their support to this day. These people helped to build memories and lessons both on and off the court.

Have any of your family members played collegiate or professional sports and what team/position did they play?
My sister played Division III basketball at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va. She played guard/forward during her collegiate career. She wore #24 in high school and #12 in college, which inspired me to wear those same numbers respectively when I played at the same levels.

Growing up playing basketball, who had the most influence on the development of your game?
My AAU and high school coach, Mike Wills. I was introduced to him in fifth grade and he coached me until my senior year of high school. I spent countless hours in the gym with him where he taught me all about IQ, confidence and swagger.
