DENVER – Junior Emma Brown (Adel, Iowa) has transferred back to the University of Denver and rejoined the DU Gymnastics team for the upcoming 2021-22 season, head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart announced on Thursday.
 
"We're excited to welcome Emma back," Kutcher-Rinehart said. "She embraces our philosophy of teamwork, character and excellence; and we are thrilled that she has chosen to pursue the remainder of her academic and athletic career here at the University of Denver. We're looking forward to another successful season with Emma and the entire team."
 
Brown competed for DU as a freshman in 2019-20 before transferring to Long Island University in 2020-21.
 
"I am thrilled to be returning to the DU campus and gymnastics team," Brown said. "When the opportunity presented itself to come back to a place where the team culture of character, teamwork and excellence – in the classroom, gymnastics and in life – reflects my own values, I was overwhelmed with gratitude and jumped at the chance.
 
"I am so blessed to be welcomed back with open arms and warm hearts. I believe that everyone has their own path, and there are lessons to be learned along our journeys. I am glad that my journey has led me back to DU with a renewed sense of joy, strength, motivation and gratitude."
 
During her freshman season, Brown regularly competed in the DU beam and floor lineups, tallying a career high of 9.850 on both events before the season was prematurely ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She earned Scholastic All-America honors in 2020 as well.
 
Denver is coming off a successful 2021 campaign that saw DU capture its first-ever Big 12 Championship. DU finished the season ranked No. 10 in the country, marking its third-straight top-10 placement in the final national rankings.
