LOS ANGELES – The University of Denver women's tennis team (1-1) dropped the doubles point, but got four singles victories to defeat Cal Poly 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Doubles:
Tatum Burger and
Toni Nelson got their first win as a tandem on the young season, winning 6-2 on the No. 3 court. The Pioneers dropped their matches on the first two courts and the Mustangs took an early 1-0 lead.
Singles:
Nelson recorded the first official point for the Pioneers on Saturday with her second win of the day, taking No. 6 singles 7-5, 6-3.
Anna Riedmiller made it two wins in two days with another three-set victory on the No. 1 court, taking the singles victory 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, putting Denver in-front 2-1.
Camille Verden-Anderson also got off to a 2-0 start this season to make it 3-1 Pioneers, winning a pair of tiebreakers in her straight-set win.
Cal Poly cut the deficit in half on the No. 2 court, but the Pioneers clinched the match when
Britt Pursell finished off her opponent in a three-set thriller 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.

Denver will open its 2022 home slate on Friday when the Pioneers host Wisconsin. First serve is set for 12 p.m. MT.
