DU Women’s Soccer Visits South Dakota on Sunday

Denver wraps up first Summit League road trip

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver played to a 0-0 draw at South Dakota State on Friday in a showdown of the top two teams in the Summit League preseason poll. DU outshot SDSU 8-6 including 3-2 in shots on target. Graduate student Sami Feller and junior McKenna Dannenhauer each had a match-best two shots.
 
QUICK HITS:
  • Redshirt senior Nerea Arrazola moved into a tie for fourth in Denver history for career shutouts with her 25th against SDSU.
  • Arrazola was also named the Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week for the second time this season and now has three consecutive shutouts to begin League play.
  • Six Pioneers played the complete 90 minutes at South Dakota State including all four defenders: sophomore Riley Baker, junior Jordan Crockett, graduate student Devan McSwain and senior Hannah Gallegos.
  • Friday's 0-0 draw at SDSU was only the second in Denver's Summit League history and the first since October 14, 2016, at North Dakota State.
  • For the second time in three seasons, Denver has posted five shutouts through its first 12 matches of the season. DU had six clean sheets in 2020 in its first six matches.
SCOUTING THE COYOTES:
South Dakota settled for a draw in its second straight match to open Summit League play, finishing 1-1 against Omaha on Friday. Ashby Johnston had the late equalizer, scoring in the 83rd minute after USD went down 0-1 early in the second half.
 
DU is 9-1-2 all-time against USD with both ties coming in the last two matches, both 1-1 matches in Denver. Denver holds a 3-1 record in Vermillion including a 1-0 win in the most recent meeting (October 20, 2019).
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
DU returns home for a single-match weekend when it hosts Omaha on Saturday, October 8, at 5 p.m. MT.
