DU Women’s Soccer Blanks Western Illinois 4-0

Denver’s four-goal second half earns Denver its fourth Summit League shutout, fifth League win

DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team used four goals in the final 25 minutes of play to shutout Western Illinois 4-0 on Friday.

Sophomore Jadyn Goodrich had the first and final goals of the night, starting the scoring in the 67th minute and ending it in the 84th minute. Graduate student Sami Feller scored less than a minute after Goodrich's first goal, and junior Addisyn Hyrup had the third goal in the 74th minute.

Denver has now won five matches in Summit League play this season, four of which were shutouts and bringing DU's clean sheet count to seven on the season.

COACH'S NOTES:
From head coach Jeff Hooker: "I think we had some great energy to begin with. Our execution was what we talked about at halftime and not getting frustrated because if we kept playing the same way, hopefully even an ugly goal would trickle in.

"If you look at (the first goal), we had a two-on-one, and Glover just waited and waited, and had so much patience and delivered the ball at the right time. Jadyn stayed on score and passed the ball in, plus the ball (from McSwain) that got in to her. So it's three little pieces there, and one of those pieces was not there in the first half. It just shows how good we can be from an attacking standpoint when we do execute well."

SIGNIFICANT STATS:
  • Denver's first and second goals were separated by just 35 seconds, marking the sixth fastest consecutive goals in the program's Division I history.
  • Five Pioneers notched multiple shots in the match led by senior Kaitlyn Glover's career best-tying five shots, three of which were on target.
  • Glover also led the way with three assists including the primary helper on the game winner. She has now earned at least one point in each of the last three matches.
  • Goodrich, who had DU's first game winner of the season, scored twice in a match for the first time in her career.
  • Senior Shweta Raje made her season debut, coming in to secure the clean sheet in the 81st minute.
FIRST HALF:
11' | Hyrup carried the ball down the left side of the pitch and crossed it beautifully into the box, landing right at Glover's feet, but the keeper made the save on the senior's second shot of the match.

14' | Graduate student Camryn MacMillan passed the ball in toward sophomore Riley Baker, who carried it toward net and put some heat on her shot, but WIU's Navas Rodriguez made a diving save.

21' | Hyrup again sent the ball into the box, but Glover tapped it ever so slightly wide.

30' | Feller received another ball from Hyrup, heading it right at the center of the net, but WIU's keeper dove to send the ball left and away from the net.

SECOND HALF:
54' | Hyrup sent the ball just in front of the far post, connecting with MacMillan who headed it just inches wide.

67' | Graduate student Devan McSwain lofted the ball down the right side of the pitch. Glover collected it and passed the ball through the box to Goodrich, who sent it into the back of the lower right corner of the net.

68' | Just 35 seconds later, MacMillan passed the ball up the middle to Glover, who threaded it perfectly to Feller, who dribbled back toward the center of the box and sent it home.
74' | Feller controlled a throw in from junior Megan Prazich and sent it laterally toward Hyrup for a touch before the junior launched the ball up and over the keeper into the net.
84' | Glover tossed the ball out right to sophomore Kiera Flanagan, who carried it into the right side of the box and fed it into the box where Goodrich was right along the goal line and tapped the ball in.
