Five Pioneers Score as DU Women’s Soccer Topples Oral Roberts

Denver sets season high for goals in 5-1 road victory on Friday

TULSA, Oklahoma – The University of Denver women's soccer team used a season-high five goals to defeat Oral Roberts 5-1 on Friday.

Five different Pioneers accounted for DU's five goals including senior Kaitlyn Glover scoring her second game winner of the year and graduate student Devan McSwain earning her first goal of the season.

DU's only goal given up was on a penalty kick early in the second half, but the team rebounded with three more goals to finish the match.

COACH'S NOTES:
From head coach Jeff Hooker: "It's hard to win on the road in this conference and when that penalty went in, it made the game a lot tighter. I was really proud of how we reacted. Getting that third goal really helped give us confidence back and calm down the nerves. It allowed us to keep playing similarly to how we did in the first half, and I was really happy with our response.

"To be able to play as many players as we did tonight and to have that success, it kind of boosts everyone's confidence. It shows the depth that we do have and that we'll need and rely on more."

SIGNIFICANT STATS:
  • Denver had at least four different goal scorers for the second match in a row.
  • A season-high nine Pioneers earned at least one point including McSwain, who had a career-best three points.
  • Seven Pioneers finished with multiple shots. McSwain and Glover led the way with four and three shots, respectively.

FIRST HALF:
7' | Sophomore Riley Baker carried the ball back toward the net from the right side of the pitch, sending it along the edge of the penalty box, and sophomore Ella Frost curled it into the upper left corner of the net.

14' | Junior Vanessa Murray fed the ball up toward the box to an advancing Glover, who arced it around the ORU keeper and into the back of the net.

31' | Junior Megan Prazich had her first offensive chance just minutes after subbing into the match but bounced it off the crossbar.

SECOND HALF:
49' | ORU converted a penalty kick after a cross clipped senior Hannah Gallegos on the arm just inside the penalty area.

65' | After a failed clear from ORU, graduate student Camryn MacMillan beat a defender to the left and finished with a shot into the far side of the net.
