DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team posted its sixth shutout of the season, earning a 2-0 victory over Omaha on Saturday.
Senior
Kaitlyn Glover scored the game winner in the 18
t4h minute with assists from graduate student
Sami Feller and junior
Addisyn Hyrup. Graduate student
Camryn MacMillan added an insurance goal eight and a half minutes into the second half.
COACH'S NOTES:
From head coach
Jeff Hooker: "I was super happy with getting the first goal. We talked at halftime about not allowing them to have easy chances with us giving the ball away or turnovers, and the second goal was the key. I thought we fought hard for it, and it gave us a little cushion for error. We were able to go deep into our bench with us only having one game on the weekend, so we went with some fresh legs for the rest of the second half, and it worked."
SIGNIFICANT STATS:
- Glover's goal was her third in the last two matches and her first game winner of the year.
- Seven Pioneers have now had a game winner in each of DU's seven wins on the season.
- Redshirt senior Nerea Arrazola landed her sixth shutout of the season and the 26th of her career.
- Hyrup, who had the game winner at South Dakota on October 2, now has three points in the last two games and four on the season.
- Hooker now owns 400 wins as the Denver Women's Soccer head coach. His career total is 420 when including victories as the Denver Men's Soccer head coach in 1996-97.
FIRST HALF:
4' | Sophomore
Ella Frost took the first corner of the half, putting right into the center of the box where graduate student
Devan McSwain headed it toward the net, but the Omaha keeper tipped it up over the net.
18' | Hyrup carried the ball up the left side of the field, passing it up into Feller in the box where Glover finished the job, heading it into the right side of the net.
43' | Sophomore
Blythe Sales fed the ball from midfield up to Feller, who sent it wide into the outside of the net.
SECOND HALF:
54' | Senior Hannah Gallegos headed the ball on target off a corner, and MacMillan put the rebound into the back of the net.
