DENVER – University of Denver Skiing is set to host three days of Nordic and alpine races in the Vail area and at Loveland Ski Area as part of its 2023 collegiate schedule.
The Pioneers-hosted Denver Invitational takes place on Feb. 10-12, with two days of Nordic racing opening the competition. DU and the rest of the schools of the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association start the meet with the 5K freestyle at Maloit Park in Minturn, Colorado, on Friday, Feb. 10, and then compete in the 10K classical at Maloit Park on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Also on Feb. 11, the alpine portion of the meet gets underway with the first of two days of slalom competition at Loveland Ski Area near Georgetown, Colorado. The Denver Invite wraps up on Sunday, Feb. 12 with more slalom action at Loveland.
The DU Invitational is also the end of two weeks of competition in the state of Colorado. The Spencer James Nelson Memorial Colorado Invitation begins February with the 20K classical and 5/10K freestyle on Feb. 3-4 at Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Two days prior to the DU invite, the alpiners will compete in a pair of giant slalom races at Eldora Mountain Resort on Feb. 9-10 to close the CU Invite
The 2023 RMISA season gets underway with two Nordic qualifying races in Houghton, Michigan, during the U.S. Cross Country National Championships. The campaign opens with the 10K freestyle on Thursday, Jan. 2, and classic sprints on Jan. 4.
Nordic then travels to Bozeman, Montana, to begin the Montana State Invitational on Jan. 13-14 before the tour heads out to Colorado. The alpine racers open their 2023 season with two days of slalom events at the Westminster Invitational in Snowbird, Utah, on Jan. 26-27. They then head to Bozeman and Bridger Bowl Ski Area to wrap up the MSU Invite with two giant slalom events on Jan. 30-31.
The 2023 RMISA Championships take place in Anchorage, Alaska, in late February, and the schools will also compete in the Alaska Anchorage Invitational while up in the United States' last frontier. The UAA Invite is set for Feb. 20-23, with Nordic competing in Freestyle sprints (Feb. 20) and 10K classic (Feb. 21) at Kincaid Park in Anchorage and alpine racing in giant slalom (Feb. 21) and slalom (Feb. 23) at Alyeska Resort in nearby Girdwood.
The RMISA Championships starts on Feb. 22 with giant slalom in Girdwood and Nordic begins its portion of the meet on Feb. 24 with the 5/10K freestyle at Government Peak Recreation Area in Palmer, Alaska. Alpine slalom racing also takes place on Feb. 24 and the 20K classical wraps up the NCAA-sanctioned Western Regional Championships back in Palmer on Feb. 25.
Denver concludes the campaign by going for its 25th national title at the 2023 NCAA Championships in Lake Placid, New York, on March 8-11. Giant slalom (March 8) and slalom (March 10) will take place at Whiteface Mountain, while the 5/10K freestyle (March 9) and 20K classical (March 11) are set to be held at the Olympic Sports Complex.
