POCATELLO, ID --Tommy Bruner knocked down a buzzer-beating 3-pointer as time expired to lead the Denver men's basketball team past the Idaho State Bengals 70-69 on the road Friday.
The Pioneers (3-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Tevin Smith, who had 21 points and six rebounds. Touko Tainamo added 11 points off of the bench and Bruner chipped in as well with 10 points.
Denver forced 14 Idaho State turnovers while committing 12 themselves in Friday's game. The Pioneers turned those takeaways into 23 points on the other end of the floor. Tyree Corbett's two steals led the way for Denver.
How It Happened
After falling behind 24-19, Denver went on a 7-0 run with 4:38 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Bruner, to take a 26-24 lead. The Pioneers then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 30-28 advantage. Denver did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 30 points close to the basket.
Idaho State proceeded to take a 38-30 lead before Denver went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 38-36 with 16:05 to go in the contest. The Pioneers kept the rally going and took the lead for good on Bruner's three-pointer with 00:00 left for a 70-69 comeback victory. Denver got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 12 of its 40 total points
