Denver Set for First Game in Two Weeks After Winter Storm Elliott

The Pioneers make their delayed start to Summit League play with a trip to Kansas City on Thursday

DENVER  – The University of Denver women's basketball program will make its long-awaited start to the Summit League calendar when the Pioneers play their first game in two weeks with a trip to Kansas City on Thursday at 6 p.m. MT. Denver's league opener was delayed eight days after the Pioneers home game against Omaha last Wednesday was postponed due to the impact of Winter Storm Elliott.

What: Game 12 of the 2022-23 Regular Season

When: Thursday, December 29, 2022 – 6 p.m. MT

SERIES HISTORY:
Kansas City has a 6-5 edge in the series history, winners of each of the last three and three of the four Summit League meetings between the two programs. The Pioneers are 2-5 in Kansas City. KC will make the return trip to Denver on January 28, where Denver is 3-1 in the series.
 
LAST TIME OUT – Idaho 91, Denver 83
Denver scored 76 points in the final three quarters, including 32 in the third, but the Pioneers couldn't overcome a slow start in a 91-83 loss at Idaho last Thursday at ICCU Arena.
 
Double-doubles by Makayla Minett, who had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Mikayla Brandon, who had 12 points and 12 rebounds, led the Pioneers (4-7) in the contest. Jojo Jones helped out with 22 points to lead Denver in scoring, while distributing a team-high five assists. Ally Haar rounded out the Pios in double figures with 18, knocking down seven of her eight free-throw attempts.
 
NOTES:
  • Denver's 32-point third quarter at Idaho was its most points in a quarter since Nov. 21, 2019 against Colorado Christian (36) and its most points in a quarter against a Division I opponent since Dec. 1, 2018 against Loyola Marymount (39).
  • The Pioneers scored 80 points in a regulation game against a Division I opponent for the first time since December 2, 2021 at UC Santa Barbara.
  • Mikayla Brandon and Makayla Minett both finished with double-doubles in Denver's game at Idaho on Thursday.
